South Beach Village Estate provides Fremantle, Western Australia with a new benchmark in premium coastal living environments. South Beach presents a unique lifestyle opportunity offering a contemporary and sustainable living environment, with easy beach access, proximity to the heart of Fremantle, as well as stunning landscaped community spaces. The 32 single residential lots and six grouped housing developments form the first link in an exciting redevelopment of this previously under utilised and neglected section of Perth’s coast.
The design of open spaces, many of which are long and linear, reflect the fluid form and nature of the coastal dunes through the creation of gently undulating terrain and a sinuous, meandering pathway system that, together with planting, defines the spatial arrangements within the parks. The harsh coastal environment dictates the use of salt tolerant coastal species, which are used in swathes of bold mass planting to provide a visually unifying element throughout the open spaces.
The primary open space within the development is a linear park which extends from the centre of the development down to the coastal strip. It will provide an important visual and physical link for future residents to the ocean, and incorporates a pavilion and small amphitheatre, paved barbecue areas with tables and benches, a lake with viewing decks, and lawn areas allowing for informal passive and active recreation.
Public Art is an integral component of the design, adding a layer of interest and richness to the public realm that contributes to the overall identity and sense of place.
