Perth Zoo Cafe

The new Zoo Function Centre and Café provides an elegant and sophisticated experience for patrons via a series of external events spaces, courtyards and dining terraces which have activated and rejuvenated the Zoo as a key tourist destination.  The diversity of spaces caters to groups of all sizes and patrons of all abilities, providing inclusive design and amenity for all.

Drawing inspiration from the Zoo’s lush botanical planting and diverse landscape character types, the landscape design is respectful of and complements Perth Zoo’s heritage, showcasing the iconic landscapes associated with Perth Zoo.

Key design features of the café area include:

• A large timber deck alfresco space for dining and takeaway, with integrated stone steps and seating the playground and great lawn.        
• A universal access path meanders up to the café deck adjacent the steps / terraces;
• New planting around the Café replicates the existing lush botanical planting of the Zoo to ensure seamless integration;
• The café and alfresco canopy harvests rain water which is fed into a seasonal dry river bed adjacent the café.  The seasonal river bed incorporates discovery art elements and an integrated storm water system;
• Existing significant trees have been retained and protected in consultation with the Zoo and Arborists.
