The Katanning Welcome Precinct is an iconic, multifunctional recreation and tourist hub that also acts as a significant new “gateway” to the town centre.
The precinct design is a contemporary interpretation of the industrial and agricultural style and heritage of the region, utilising simple, robust materials including steel and timber for longevity and maintainability. Existing giant play equipment from the heritage All Ages Playground built in the 1980s was removed and restored off-site to meet appropriate safety standards and has been integrated into the new playground which also features new bespoke and unique dynamic play elements in keeping with the existing design style and philosophy of the playground. A new aerial walkway has also been designed to create a dynamic feature within the iconic playground offering elevated views over the precinct and to link the different playground spaces across the regional drain that traverses the site.
A diversity of play spaces are ordered around open lawn areas and linked by a path network, creating an ideal environment for community functions and events. Enhanced facilities and amenities, including a new access road and car parks, bespoke shade structures and picnic facilities, and amenity and feature lighting encourage visitation and extended use, making this a true destination park within the region.
